Silvia Schwarte is a German photographer, who is based in Geneva, Switzerland, since 2007.
Having graduated from Berlin and Düsseldorf Universities as pharmacist and public health specialist (MPH), over the past decade – besides her work in the fight against Malaria – photography has become an ever-growing passion in her life. Her particular interest lies in documentary and fine art photography as well as combining photography with a painting style, working with artistic means such as close ups, abstraction as well as colours and contrast.
Recently she moved away from printing photography in a classical way on fine art paper, leaving 2-dimensionality towards creating 3-dimensional art objects with her photographs, such as illuminated frames and liporello-style photographs on brushed aluminium. Initially being an autodidact, over the past few years, Silvia has participated in a number of national and international classes and workshops with renowned photographers such as Yoshi Shimizu, Peter Turnley, Claudine Doury, Alex Webb & Rebecca Norris Webb, Thomas Dworzak and Antoine d’Agata.
In 2016, Silvia had her first solo photo exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland. Since then she is regularly participating in group and solo photo exhibitions, both in private galleries in Geneva and Lausanne, at the United Nations and the World Health Organization in Geneva, as well as in Arles, France, at the photo festival Les Rencontres d’Arles.
